The goal of the Social Justice & Peace Commission is to provide avenues for our parishioners, as well as those outside the Parish, to live out their faith and love in the community. Our work demonstrates to those throughout the community how we live out Christ's commandment to love one another. We look to provide opportunities for discipleship and "finding one's charism" through service to others. We live out our gospel mission beyond Church walls.
Through routine collections of everyday necessities, breakfasts for our unhoused brothers and sisters, to learning opportunities for those interested in knowing more about the Church's Social Justice Teachings, the Commission provides opportunities to give back and give of yourselves.
St. Michael Parish partners with other faith communities to prepare and serve a free breakfast for our neighbors who are unhoused and others in need every third Saturday of the month at The Unitarian Universalist Community Church 69 Winthrop Street, Augusta. How Can I Help? You can help by: (1) volunteering for two hours to prepare, set-up, serve, or clean-up at a meal, (2) dropping-off homemade baked goods at a meal, or (3) making a monetary donation to the St. Michael Parish Food Ministry Programs. For more information about any of these programs or to volunteer, please contact: Frank Cuff, St. Michael Parish Food Ministry Program Coordinator, 207-660-8050 or [email protected]
Bring your toilet paper, paper towel, and disinfecting wipes to Masses at all Parish churches during weekends of June 13-14 and June 20-21! The St. Michael Parish Social Justice and Peace commission is collecting paper products that will be donated to the United Community Living Center. Last year we collected 619 rolls of toilet paper and 219 rolls of paper towels. There is still a great need for these products in our community.
