For those children who are preparing to receive the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist, a two-year preparation period, per the Diocese of Portland, is offered. Preparation begins within the faith formation classes (see our 3 options). Children entering First Grade or those up through age 12 who have not received their sacraments begin in Year I of preparation. In addition to the Faith Formation opportunities listed, gatherings for Year I and Year II families occur a few times during the year, focusing on more specific aspects of the sacraments. These gatherings will occur at St. Mary Church.
Three different learning opportunities are available for children and families to grow in faith:
St. Francis Xavier, Winthrop (Pre-K – 12), features a classroom-style learning, meets twice each month on Sundays.
Sacred Heart, Hallowell (starting at ages 3 – 12) features Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a Montessori-style learning, meets Thursday afternoons (weekly) or Sunday mornings, twice per month.
St. Mary, Augusta (Grades 1 – 12) features Family Formation learning, meets Sunday morning one time per month, in which parents and children learn together, and resources are provided for formation at home.
You are free to choose which model and/or time suits your child and family best.
Volunteers
Through our Baptism, we are called to serve the Church, share our faith and make disciples. We are always looking for volunteers and teaching is just one opportunity. Please consider being an assistant in a classroom, making baked goods for faith formation events, taking pictures, writing cards, creating posters, using whatever giftedness God has blessed you with to help others grow in faith. Above all else, please pray for the children and their families. Whatever part of the faith journey that you and your children are on, we are here to walk with you, to listen, to guide, to assist, and to be present. May you be inspired and strengthened by the prayers of the St. Michael community through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Baptism
If your child has not yet been baptized or if you are interested in becoming Catholic or learning more about the faith, please emailShawn Gregory, Director of Faith Formation, to set up a time to meet or by calling the Pastoral Office @ 207.623.8823.
